About BeeLingoTheka 🐝
Hello and welcome to my BeeLingoTheka, your one-stop destination for all things related to reading and literacy! BeeLingoTheka is all about the joy of reading, multilingual living and promoting a love for languages (and bees 🐝🐝😃).
My name is Joanna and I'm a qualified teacher with a Master's degree in Teaching English and Literature Studies. Currently I'm furthering my passion for language teaching by pursuing a postgraduate course in Polish as a foreign language. I'm also an official Jigsaw Phonics tutor and a language enthusiast, with a special focus on multilingualism.
I actively support multilingual and multicultural families as a Bilingual Family Partner (formerly PEaCH Ambassador for the European PEaCH Project) and through the SprachCafé im Ohr project. I provide guidance to parents and educators on how to nurture a child's home language(s). After living in three different countries, I'm now based in Berlin, Germany, where I help coordinate the SprachCafé Polnisch, focusing on home language and literacy programmes for bilingual children.
As a parent raising trilingual children myself, I have firsthand experience in supporting young multilinguals. I understand the kind of support children need to become confident readers and successful learners in multiple languages. Through my tutoring, I offer reading help to children and guide them on their path to multilingualism, empowering them to excel academically, explore the world, and connect with others.
As a lifelong learner I regularly update my skills and knowledge, also focusing on child safeguarding. I earned the NSPCC certification in Child Protection for Tutors in 2023. To provide top-notch services to my students and cater to the needs of multilingual families, I have successfully completed the following programs:
The Online Educator: People and Pedagogy at The Open University
Intercultural Communication at Shanghai International Studies University
Multilingual Practices: Tacking Challenges and Creating Opportunities at the University of Groningen
Dyslexia and Foreign Language Teaching at Lancaster University
Developing Reading for Pleasure: Engaging Young Readers at The Open University.
